With summer just around the corner, there’s no better time to dust off the running gear and enjoy the great outdoors. Yet whatever entertainment you take with you to keep you on the straight and narrow – your favourite jogging mix, for example, or an audiobook – sometimes it doesn’t cut the mustard, especially if you’re in particularly uninspiring surroundings.
Running is rapidly rising the ranks of popular sports in the UK – with an estimated half of the country’s 10.5 million runners signing up for competitive events at least once a year – and as fitness fanatics ourselves here at Banana Moon, we wanted to keep inspiring others to enjoy this fantastic activity, especially as the weather starts to work better in its favour!
And so we launched a competition to find the best running views in the UK, inviting our followers to submit their favourite snaps from their fitness travels.
Photo competition entries ranged from dusky sunsets and marathon achievements to running club selfies. After much deliberation, Duncan Nygongkai claimed the prize for a truly stunning photo of his club taking on a lakeside run in the Scottish hills just outside of Glasgow:
Banana Moon has provided him with personalised T-shirts for everyone in his team, ready for the Skye half-marathon they are getting involved with in June.
Duncan said: “I’ve been running for around three years now, which all started because I realised how unfit I was! I joined the running club quite quickly after taking up the sport and it eventually escalated to racing and I’ve now completed 36 events.
“The best thing about being in a running club is the motivation and support they give. Within my club, there are folks of mixed abilities, and it’s really great to see everyone’s progress. Even if you’re a slow runner, when everyone in your team cheers for you as you approach the finishing line, it’s a really uplifting feeling.”
Alex Grace, our marketing director, said: “There are many different motivations for taking up running. Whether it’s competitive running, the love of being part of a team, or just to clear your mind at the end of a busy day, we are definitely seeing more and more runners and joggers at our local parks and taking part in marathons.
“One of our favourite items to print is running club T-shirts – it’s great to see the creative nicknames groups come up with, the vibrant team colours and all of the brilliant causes the group are running and fundraising for.”
