Routes with a View

Throughout this green and pleasant land we call home, we are blessed with a bounty of terrific trails and riotous routes. Whether it’s a woodland adventure or a coastal jaunt you desire, or if you’re looking for a run with a view, there’s plenty to choose from here in the UK. From the Scottish borders down to the white cliffs of Dover there is bound to be a route near you to inspire, here’s just a few of our favourites.

Sprinting by the sea
Combining the sheer majesty of the North York Moors with all the fun of the Great British Seaside, for those taking on the Cleveland Way, a 110 mile stretch of breath-taking scenery awaits. Whether you decide to start your trip at Filey, Helmsley or Saltburn it doesn’t matter – all that matters is burning enough calories so you can justify to yourself that fish n’ chips we both know you’ll fancy after

Chasing the sun
Running from Southport in the west and Hornsea in the east, the Trans Pennine Trail is a 215 mile route that passes through some of the North’s finest towns, waterways and countryside. Obviously we wouldn’t expect anyone to try running the whole length, but if you’re currently living in’t North, why not find the nearest route to your house and see what you can find?

Her Majesty’s Mooch
Marking the Queen’s Jubilee and the London Olympics, Jubilee Greenway opened in 2012. Sights along the way include Greenwich Park, Little Venice, Woolwich Foot Tunnel and HMS Belfast – meaning that at whichever point you decide to start running, you can be sure to see at least one interesting sight during your time jogging along this particular route.

Hadrian’s Hike
In a similar vein to the Trans Pennine Trail, Hadrian’s Wall Path runs from coast to coast. Following the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, joggers can hope to see some Roman ruins along the way – providing they map their route properly, that is! For the perfect outing, plan to finish your route in one of the market towns along the way and treat yourself to a well-earned pint. Cheers!

Go your own way
If you don’t live near a designated route, national trail or coastal haven, then why not make your own route? With apps like walkit, users are encouraged to plot their own adventures – which means there really is no excuse when it comes to getting out there and kick-starting your new jogging routine.
