I sat down with Paul, the company director and asked him a few questions on why BM decided to use apprentices within their recruitment process, and what they bring to BM. I myself was interviewed by Paul, so it felt like a bit of a weird role reversal…
His main thoughts centred around the company values we hold here. When you join, you get a company handbook. Sounds pretty standard, right? Well it’s something a little more complex.
Sounds pretty wordy. Basically it’s what we try to do as much as we can daily with our customers. Bring people together. But to do that you’ve got to embody what you believe in as a starting point. I mean, without that it would be like Martin Luther king, but without the dream. It wouldn’t quite work.
Ok, extreme analogy. But you get my point (hopefully). If you walked into Banana Moon I think you’d struggle to find two things. Firstly, I bet you couldn’t identify two people that are the same. Whether its age, experience, background, you name it. Secondly, no one will be arguing or involved in office drama. It’s almost unheard of. Sad news for any fans of ‘The Office’.
Like any business, it’s super important that we keep up with the fast paced demands of our industry and there’s no better way to do this than acquiring new people with brilliant, fresh ideas and a willingness to succeed. Being an apprentice at Banana Moon is more than just a training programme. It’s an investment into the future, for both Banana Moon and the individual.
There’s one thing that does pull us all together and it’s the shared vision and embodiment of what we are trying to achieve here, both personally and as part of the company. The bigger picture. Plus, what’s better to colour in a big picture? Surely a box of colourful crayons as opposed to a pack of graphite. I feel like I’m taking this analogy too far now. Sorry.
This week I’m going to be doing a bit of a spotlight on some of our current apprentices and the people who have finished the scheme and are now settling into a career here at BM.
We take people of all ages and experiences for our apprentices, and there’s no set criteria. We just want everyone to work together, help each other out and be happy here at BM.
Oh yeah, and make some awesome clothing.
